Smoke Alarm

Welcome To Hi Tec Alarms

For the supply and installation of smoke, fire and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms in the home

Following the Grenfell fire in 2017, the Scottish Government decided that it was going to bring in a law requiring all homes in Scotland to have interlinked alarms. This law is in force from February 2022. The legislation means that by law you must have interlinked smoke detectors and heat detectors installed in your home, as well as a carbon monoxide detector in each room that requires one.

Where The Alarms Should Be Sited

  • Where the alarms should be sited

The alarms should be sited as follows:

An interlinked smoke alarm should be sited in the room most used on a daily basis - usually the living room.

An interlinked heat alarm should be fitted in the kitchen.

An interlinked smoke alarm should also be fitted in every circulation space on each storey, such as hallways and landings.

In addition, a carbon monoxide detector (interlinked or standalone) should be sited in any area where you have a carbon-fuelled appliance, like a boiler, fire, heater or flue.

Please note that this is the minimum standard required to comply with the law. To fully protect your home, smoke alarms should be sited in every bedroom.
